At one time or another, we all struggle to lead lives of meaning. In this post I’d like to share something that I’ve found extremely helpful and I hope will help you too. Watch or read on! Within the past couple years, I found an author by the name of Russ Harris. He has written a wonderful series of books called “The Happiness Trap”, “The Confidence Gap”, and “The Reality Slap”. They all cover something called ACT Therapy: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
The specific tip that I wanted to share today is something I have taken from Russ on how to live a life of meaning. Russ’ suggestion is that when you’re clear on your values, you can always be headed in a meaningful direction. Even if you’re struggling with anxiety—I have anxiety and I know a lot of female entrepreneurs and other people do as well—no matter how you’re feeling, even if that can’t control that, you can always act in line with your values, and THAT is what makes a meaningful life. So getting clear on your values is…well, invaluable. On the note copywriting, if you’re interested in seeing if we’d be a good fit to work together, I do free connection calls. Tell me about what you’re working on and let’s see if we’re a good fit! This week I am sharing from Lima, Peru. Go team #DigitalNomad! What do you think of this idea? Does it resonate for you? Please leave a comment and I promise to reply :)

Do you ever feel like your priorities aren’t your own and that you get sucked into say yes to everything because you like pleasing other people? In this 90-second video, I share an easy first step to managing this problem. Or, continue reading below. Today I want to talk about the overwhelmed “yes girl” who needs an alternative. I actually am taking inspiration from a friend who found herself doing this all the time, and my suggestion to her was that instead of saying “yes” right away when people asked something of her (e.g. Can you take on this project? Can you accompany me here? Can you grab the groceries for us tonight? etc.), try saying, “can I get back to you?” She wanted to say something, but also leave herself a little time to put aside her people pleasing habits and think about whether she had the bandwidth, time or desire to take the new thing on. Just try that on for size and see how it feels! Instead of an instant “yes”, try “can I get back to you?” People can usually wait an hour while you think something through, and I bet it will make a difference. Give it a whirl and let me know how that goes for you; I’m going to make an effort to try that this week too.
I’m currently in Medellin, Colombia, loving life... but not much longer, because soon I will continue on to Peru. Until next week, I will talk to you then! By the way, I am a professional copywriter for female entrepreneurs! Visit my website and reach out for a free connection call to see what I'm all about :) Did you find this helpful? I have a whole YouTube channel with more content like this! It’s all about copywriting, editing, travel and digitally nomadic lifestyle, motivation and inspiration. Be a doll and subscribe? :) Annnnnd of course, please don’t leave me hanging out here by myself. I love to chat. Do you have other tips you use for managing your people-pleasing tendencies? Ever wonder about a copywriter's motivation for starting their business? I have several, but the main one is... you. Let me tell you more about why Megan Words got started in the video or transcript below :) Megan Words is a boutique copywriting and editing consultation business. I love what I do because it gives me the opportunity to help other people birth their visions. Yeah, that’s kind of cheesy… but the truth is that while most business owners and entrepreneurs have mastery of their core offering, talking about it is a completely different beast. It comes to me naturally and I love to help other people share their value with the world. The other thing that being a copywriter allows me to do is be a digital nomad, which means that every week I’m sharing my vlogs from somewhere new and interesting. This week, it’s from Big White in British Colombia, Canada. I love how it allows me to connect with other people; being a copywriter I get to talk to big-hearted, service-providing female entrepreneurs on the daily. Yahoo!
If you think we might be a good fit, please reach out. I would love to do a free connection call. We can talk about my process, see if we’re a good it, talk about what you need. Contact me here! Don't let me talk to myself... let's make this two-way. Why did you start your business? Tell me in the comments and I promise to reply. |
